Tyra to quit talk show Spring 2010

And another one bites the dust! Well, not really. Daytime television will lose another talk show Diva in spring 2010.

Seems like Tyra Banks following Oprah’s lead and quitting the talk show biz. I thought people like Tyra and Rachael Ray would take advantage of the hole that Oprah is leaving to go to war to take the top spot. But Tyra is going to quit while she’s ahead.

She will reportedly focus on her film production company, Bankable Studios, that Tyra claims will bring “positive images of women to the big screen”. Good for her, I hope to see some more substantial content from her. The show was getting a bit repetitive and I wasn’t so drawn by the body odour talk.

She will continue to pump out those models from the ANTM machine. But the five year run of The Tyra Show is coming to a close. What is the future of daytime network talk shows?

Update (Dec. 29): According to Mediatakeout.com Tyra is getting cancelled because of bad ratings and Wendy Williams show has something to do with that as “The Queen” as they call her is experiences record ratings. Good for Wendy but she is a bit much for my taste and I’m still trying to figure out if she used to be a man, it’s distracting.

  • I think Tyra’s show has very little substance and she focuses on mainstream media issues. Although I must admit that some of her topics are interesting and do provide light but a lot of them really don’t. Who really wants to know about a swingers life? Or about men that have 94 sexual partners? Or pregnant prostitutes?

At least Oprah provided substance with the opportunity to educate her audiences with information people would have never got the chance to know about. Plus she contributes to society with positive contributions to help people grow and help themselves. What can someone do with a make-over? I’m not hating on Tyra Banks but she focuses more on the media issues such as personal imagine, clothing etc…
